GHF Supports the Lḵoot Ḵwáan Culture Camp

In July, the Goldbelt Heritage Foundation (GHF) proudly participated in the Lḵoot Ḵwáan Culture Camp, a weeklong program dedicated to the teaching and preservation of cultural traditions. The camp featured a variety of hands-on activities, including paddle carving, traditional food preparation, and community-based learning experiences.

GHF staff supported this year’s camp by assisting instructors and helping youth engage in activities such as fish processing and preservation, cedar headband weaving, compass navigation, Lingít language lessons, and storytelling. These opportunities provided participants with meaningful connections to cultural knowledge and practices while strengthening intergenerational ties.

GHF extends our sincere appreciation to the camp organizers, instructors, and community members whose commitment made the program a success, as well as to GHF staff for contributing their skills, time, and dedication to this important cultural initiative.

Participation in programs such as the Lḵoot Ḵwáan Culture Camp reflects GHF’s broader mission to preserve, revitalize, and share the languages, traditions, and cultural heritage of Southeast Alaska for future generations.
