Birth Speakers
Honoring Language Carriers
Birth speakers are at the heart of Lingit language revitalization. Their voices carry knowledge, pronunciation, worldview, and lived experience that cannot be replaced or recreated.
Goldbelt Heritage Foundation’s language work is guided by deep respect for birth speakers and the responsibility that comes with recording, teaching, and preserving their knowledge.
Birth Speakers as Language Carriers
A birth speaker is someone who learned the Lingít language as their first language through family and community use. Their fluency reflects generations of cultural transmission and lived experience.
Birth speakers are not simply teachers or contributors, they are language carriers whose knowledge shapes how language is documented, taught, and understood.
GHF’s role is to support this work responsibly so that future generations can continue learning from voices grounded in lived language.
