Táaxʼaa is a traditional Lingít story of survival and transformation, in which a young brother confronts a cannibal during a time of starvation and consequently creates mosquitos from its ashes, forever reminding us of hardship and desperation. Narrated by Kaasteen Jill Meserve and illustrated by G̲at X̲wéech Nick Alan Foote and Jaax̱snée Kelsey Mata Foote, Táaxʼaa is part of the Lingít Shkalneegí Haa Yátx’i Kagéiyi Yís book series, a collaboration between Tlingit & Haida, Goldbelt Heritage Foundation, and Cedar Group.
